Abstract:

The study assessed the effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Project of the Grade School CES in AY 2013-2014 in terms of the results of the Cleanest Classroom and Highest (PET Bottle) Earner Contests along with the project’s overall impact on the (environmental) mindset and (societal) awareness of the GS pupils on SWM based on the results of an Evaluation Survey.
The findings of the Cleanest Classroom and Highest (PET Bottle) Earner Contests and the Evaluation Survey were presented in sequential order based on the Statement of the Problem. The GS students are judged as average in the Cleanest Classroom Contest considering the quantity of excellent performing sections with nine out of 18 sections per month gaining more than 4.0 in the competition duration but with majority of the sections scoring above 3.0 every month, the GS students, in general, recorded an above average performance. The highest registered scores were 4.97, 4.96 and 4.93 with the lowest at 0.60. In the Highest Earner challenge, 271 kg was the greatest amount of PET bottle weight while 105.6 kg was the lightest load recorded.
Even if some sections are not in line with the objectives of the Cleanest Classroom Contest, and with the rising and falling trend in PET bottle weight collection, the data still proved the enthusiasm and solid work of the GS students in organizing their classrooms and segregating wastes for the sake of cleanliness.
