Democratic experience as manifested in the practice of elections is dealt in this research through an analysis of the culture of voting for the mayoral post in the municipality of Tiaong, Quezon in the 2010 elections. Culture of voting is referred from the following theories: Patron Client, Machine Politics, Bossism, Robredo Style of Politics, Benedict Kerkvliet and James Scott, Duverger, and charismatic authority. Corresponding indicators are drawn based from the main concepts provided in each of the theories. The data used are the ratings provided by the respondents on how strong each of the indicators affects their choice of a mayoral candidate wherein the scale ranges from one (1) being the lowest up to five (5) as the highest. The analyses used are frequency and mean. Frequency is used for the determination of percentage of respondents determining the impact of each indicator; and mean on the other hand is used to provide a general description of how each of the theories affects voting preference. The interpretation of the analyzed data is done through the use of 95% confidence interval. The result of the study demonstrates that the strongest effect on the choice of voters is exerted by Robredo Style of Politics, and Benedict Kerkvliet and James Scott theories. Based from the results of the study; the research draws its implication on democracy in terms of protective and developmental variants.
