The Effect of Expectations in Relationship Satisfaction of Early Adults

Abstract:

The aim of the study was to determine if there is a significant effect of the expectations of males and females in their relationship satisfaction. To measure the level of expectations and relationship satisfaction of the respondents, the researchers administered their self-developed scales namely; the Expectations Scale and Relationship Satisfaction Scale. With a total of 150 young adults who are currently involved in a relationship as respondents, this research found that expectations have no effect in the relationship satisfaction of males while, on the other hand, expectations of females affect their relationship satisfaction. The results showed that both genders have high expectations and high relationship satisfaction. The results also revealed that males’ expectations are not a sole determinant of their relationship satisfaction. On the other hand, females’ expectations have a significant effect in their relationship satisfaction.
