THE CHRISTIAN IMPERATIVE IN THE LIGHT OF SØREN AABYE KIERKEGAARD’S CONCEPT OF LOVE AND ANJEZË GONXHE BOJAXHIU’S NOTION OF CHARITY

Abstract:

This study is about the Kierkegaard’s concept of love, Bojaxhiu’s notion of charity, and the Christian Imperative “you shall love your neighbor as yourself”. Guided and directed by the contentions of this study, the inquiry focused on Kierkegaard’s concept of love and Bojaxhiu’s notion of charity, the Christian Imperative and how Kierkegaard’s concept of love and Bojaxhiu’s notion of charity serve as means for understanding and its implications. Three variables were considered: Kierkegaard’s concept of love and Bojaxhiu’s notion of charity, and the Christian Imperative. This study employed a descriptive-exploratory method, and comparative and contrastive analysis. The researcher found similarities and differences between two proponents; the proponents’ writings were analyzed and compared, and were used as means for supplementing the third variable. Kierkegaard’s concept of love of Bojaxhiu’s notion of charity as alternative ways for understanding the Christian Imperative “you shall love your neighbor as yourself” will challenge everyone, not just Christians, to understand deeper the context of love and charity, to apply love and charity in every circumstance, and to love one another just as what Jesus Christ has taught.
