Abstract:

The world’s electricity requirements are increasing at an alarming rate. At the same time, the power demanded by consumers exceeds the available supply. Due to these challenges, the researchers of the study aimed to develop a device which could convert energy from the motion of sea waves and swells into electrical energy. Conversion of energy from waves and swells was achieved using a floater and a mechanical assembly which converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy. The mechanical assembly included a coil and a magnet to generate electrical energy through electromagnetic induction. Using an inverter, DC electricity that has been stored on batteries was converted back to AC electricity. The AC electricity was utilized to run appliances the following appliances: 1 television, 2 fluorescent lamps, and 1 electric fan. The study comprised of two methods, namely, experimental development and descriptive approach. The results of the evaluation signified satisfactory ratings which implied the efficacy of the device’s features and operation.
