Geographic Information System for Development Work

Glenn A. Baldelovar

Abstract:

Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer-based system that stores, captures, analyzes, and produces geospatial data; generates summary reports based on filtering requirements; and produces graphical representation through maps. GIS has basic components such as data, hardware, software, and user. Geospatial data are spatially referenced and can either be vector or raster (Chang, 2017). Graphical representation through 3D maps, aerial maps, and satellite maps is essential in determining the actual location of an area especially when significant information can be attached to a particular area on the map.
