This paper is an introduction to the technique of hypnotic induction. The author discusses the basic concepts relevant to hypnotic induction. These concepts include characteristics of the ideal hypnotic subject, the nature of the hypnotic state, tests of susceptibility to hypnosis, the preparation and methods of hypnotic induction, the procedures for deepening the level of hypnotic trance, managing pain in hypnosis, the posthypnotic signal, and waking up the subject. The author also discusses ethical guidelines for the practice of hypnosis, and models of applications of hypnotic induction in medicine and dentistry (Eds.).
