The search for the earliest human remains in the country has been going on since the 1930s. Local and foreign scientists have collaborated on geological and archaeological researches to collect information and data that would demonstrate how Cagayan Valley was once inhabited. The research had a long hiatus due to the change in focus of the succeeding geologists and archaeologists. In 2014, another team of local and foreign researchers went to Rizal, Kalinga to once again embark on the earlier search for evidences. To date, the research has been successful with the discovery of more fossils and stone tools, with a warm reception from the local community and government unit.
