Environmental Practices Among Marine Engineering Students in JBLFMU-Molo, Philippines

Abstract:

Our environment is where everything on earth surrounds us. This study determined the level of marine environmental practices among marine engineering students at the College of Maritime Education, JBLFMU-Molo, and Iloilo City. The participants in this study were the randomly selected 300 marine engineering students of JBLFMU-Molo, Iloilo City. Results reveal that the marine environmental practices among marine engineering students of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University were very high when taken as an entire group and classified according to certain categories. Significant differences existed in the respondents’ marine environmental practices when classified according to a type of residence; however, no significant difference existed when the respondents were classified according to the program type. It was recommended that the institutions on maritime education, they can get baseline data regarding environmental protection awareness, practices, issues, and concerns and may revisit their curricular programs and integrate preservation and conservation of the marine environment. Moreover, school administrators should create programs to promote marine environmental practices among maritime institutions in the region.
