PERCEIVED TASKS OF QUALITY ASSURANCE: THEIR IMPACT ON THE TEACHING-LEARNING PROCESS

Abstract:

Quality assurance systems of schools are put in place to ensure that institutions responsible for such endeavors are provided with optimal education. This study looked into the perceptions of deans and faculty on the task of the quality assurance system. It further investigated their impact on the teaching-learning process of a university in Northern Philippines. The researchers made use of the descriptive design with the use of an adapted questionnaire. There were 62 faculty and seven deans who participated in the study. The perceived tasks of the quality assurance system are significantly related to the perceived impact on the teaching and learning process. There is no significant difference in the perception of the deans and faculty on the tasks of the university's quality assurance system and its impact on the teaching and learning process. The quality of the teaching-learning process is greatly influenced by the strategies/tasks performed by the quality assurance system of the school. It is thus recommended that strengthening and empowering the teachers and deans to conduct quality assurance activities to ensure quality education – manifested in globally competitive graduates.
