Abstract:

A generation is a group of people defined by age boundaries—those who were born during a certain era, they shared similar experiences, growing up, their values and attitudes, particularly about work- related, (Notter, 2009). Values defined what people believed to be fundamentally right or wrong. Work values have been described as a worker’s attitudes about what one should expect from the workplace and how he should go about reaching those expectations. (George & Jones, 1999). The workplace today is not that simple as of the traditional because the modem worker’s job requires decision- making, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and managing that may require a prioritizing of options to select the best, considering the circumstances. This study aims to explore the differences between the older and the younger generations’ work values and beliefs in the workplace. The descriptive- correlational research design was used in this study. The respondents of the study are employees in the educational sector, private sector, and government sector in the Philippines. The work values and beliefs factor were categorized as Career, Creativity, Collaboration, Continuous Improvement, Changing Jobs, Globally Oriented, Promotion, Networking and Work-life balance. In testing the hypotheses, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to treat the sample data. Other statistical tools included were the computation of percentage, weighted mean, and standard deviation. The main hypothesis subject to test that there is no significant difference among the views of the employees from the generational age groups in the educational sector, private sector, and government sector Philippines on their work values and beliefs. The results revealed that the employees from different generations age groups dominantly prefer to balance work and personal life.
