Production and Marketing of Ergonomically Designed Saddle and Back Support for Tricycle Drivers

Abstract:

Tricycle drivers are prone to back pain and discomfort due to improper posture and long hours of driving. To address this problem, the researchers looked into the feasibility of producing and marketing ergonomically designed back support as there is no existing product that can specifically cater to tricycle drivers’ need. Richtech Industrial Company is a manufacturing company of different metal and non-metal industrial products located in Parian, Calamba City, Laguna. Since the waste of this company is metal and rubber, the researchers came up with a solution where the company and community will benefit both from the waste produced. Analysis of the survey results revealed that tricycle drivers in Calamba, Los Baños, Bay, and Calauan showed a significant demand for saddle and back support. The ergonomically designed saddle and back support was found environment friendly and at the same time profitable. Since the waste of the company will be used for this new product, it will be profitable because of the low cost of the raw material. The unit price of the product is Php 540.32 with an expected return of investment of 1.04 years.
