Poverty as a Factor Affecting the Society During the COVID-19 Pandemic in the Case of SelectedStudents in the Philippines: Impact and Interventions

Angelique M. Camero

Abstract:

This study was conducted to find out how poverty affects the people at Espiritu Santo Parochial School, Inc. in the midst of the pandemic. Three research questions were formulated to guide the study. The population of the study consisted of all Grade 12 students. Through the process of systematic random sampling, a total of 30 students were selected to participate in the study. The major instrument used for collecting data was a6-item online survey questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed through the use of simple percentages. It was discovered based on the analysis that most of the respondents are struggling financially, socially, and mentally during the pandemic. They struggled because of unemployment, safety protocols implemented by the government, and the incompetence of the Philippine government. Based on these findings, recommendations were made that the Philippine government should focus on developing a concrete plan to deal with the pandemic rather than avoiding their responsibilities and diverting attention to unimportant things, and that Filipinos should adhere to the government's safety protocols for their own safety.
