Abstract:

This study aimed to help the Department of Tourism of Region IV-A to promote, disseminate, and advertise their tourist destinations, programs, and activities with the help of Web-Based Technology. The tourist attractions that can be seen in the system are those in the CALABARZON Region only. The system has three key users: Department of Tourism (DOT) CALABARZON, Local Government Units (LGUs), and the tourists. The system will help promote tourist attractions which have been accredited by the Department, and collect tourist arrivals from the tourist attractions and LGUs. In addition, the system will also be able to approve or disapprove the tourism development plan submitted. The tourist module is the social part of the system where users can post blogs, comments, rank, and create an account. XAMPP or PHPmyAdmin was the main software used for local hosting, manipulating the database in MySQL and as well as for the trial before uploading the system to its web hosting. HTML and CSS were also applied in the development of the system. The ISO 9126 based questionnaire was used for evaluating the system in terms of functionality, usability, efficiency, maintainability, and portability. The survey conducted allowed the researchers to determine if the system was going to be effective to bring improvement to the current process of DOT and LGU. With the proposed system for Department of Tourism Region IV-A which is mainly responsible for promoting accredited tourist destinations, collecting and recording the number of tourist arrivals in the region, and managing the tourism development plan of LGUs, the researchers concluded that the workload of the Department will be easier to manage and will become more organized. The system features of requesting tourist destinations of LGUs to DOT and DOT giving approval to LGUs’ requested tourist destinations were found achieved. The LGU’s ability to give an access code to specific tourist destination and provide web-based tourist record form of CALABARON Getaway was also included in the system’s main functions. Lastly, the system has a functionality of providing the general requirements for tourism development plan of the LGU. These features, evaluated by knowledgeable and skilled authorities, were found beneficial to DOT.
