The study attempted to provide an alternative method to improve the accuracy and lessen the time in locating faults in the transmission lines of NGCP. Using descriptive type of research to show the best solution, the study was conducted at the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines. The researchers interviewed the non-technical and technical persons in the corporation. They analyzed the data gathered on the present equipment to provide three possible solutions to the problem. The study found that in providing alternative solutions with higher accuracy compared to the current setup, there was a lesser time in detecting the fault location. The alternative solutions that could upgrade the present method of National Grid Corporation of the Philippines in locating faults were the Type A, D, and E locators that use different variations of Travelling Wave Method. The most practical and economical solution proposed to improve the current fault location method of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines is alternative no. 2, which is the Type D Locator. Through the systematic computation of the savings and the total project cost of the chosen alternative, the researchers found that the payback period of the NGCP is 1.83 years or 1 year, 10 months and 2.95 days. The rate of return for the proposed project is 54.65%. After comprehensive analyses of the study, and based on the conclusions cited, the researchers recommended conducting other methods of comparing the accuracy of the fault location methods. They also recommended searching for other fault location methods that are more advanced than the presented methods, and including time in locating faults as criteria for choosing the best alternative.
