Usability Assessment of the UST Miguel de Benavides Digital Library

Abstract:

Libraries are essential entities, especially in educational institutions, as they provide access to various resources. In this age of technology, electronic resources and digital libraries serve as the library users’ primary sources of information for their research since both are accessible in the comfort of their own space, time, and device. Digital libraries play a vital role in democratizing access to information, preserving cultural heritage, and advancing teaching and learning in various fields of study. This study aims to determine the satisfaction level of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Miguel de Benavides Library stakeholders with their digital library and to assess its usability. The study employed a descriptive research design and collected data through an online survey. A total of 105 respondents from UST were randomly selected. Findings revealed that there is a significant need to improve and enhance the UST digital library in terms of its capability to download contents, navigation and search functions, accuracy of resources, organization, security of uploaded materials, and capacity to cater to diverse library users. Respondents’ recommendations include assessing the digital asset management software, conducting a compatibility study, and redesigning the digital library website. It is hoped that the results will allow for the enhancement of the UST digital library to improve user experience and user satisfaction and to guide others who plan to develop and improve their digital library.
