ACADEMIC OPTIMISM IN RELATION TO JOB SATISFACTION AND WORK COMMITMENT OF TEACHERS

Abstract:

This study aimed to determine the academic optimism of public school teachers by means of their job satisfaction and work commitment. This study also utilized non-experimental quantitative research using descriptive methods. The researcher identified at least 150 total population of teachers of Buhangin District Davao City with at least 3 to 5 years of teaching experience. This study revealed that academic optimism in terms of the teachers’ sense of trust in students and parents, teachers’ sense of academic emphasis, and teachers’ sense of efficacy are oftentimes manifested. For the level of job satisfaction of teachers in terms of the practice of teachers’ job satisfaction on the job, teacher's work achievement, teacher's work responsibility were equivalently described as high and were oftentimes manifested while in terms of the work commitment of teachers in terms of teachers’ affective commitment on the job, teachers’ continuance commitment on the job, teachers’ normative commitment on the job, it is also oftentimes manifested and described equivalently as high. Thus, there is a significant relationship between the academic optimism of the teachers, job satisfaction and work commitment of teachers.
