SCHOOL HEADS’ LEADERSHIP PRACTICES AND TEACHERS’ MORALE OF EAST DISTRICT SCHOOLS, BANSALAN, DAVAO DEL SUR

Abstract:

This study determined the school heads’ leadership practices and the teachers’ morale in the East District Schools of Bansalan, Davao del Sur. This descriptive–correlation research made use of a quantitative approach using the data which were generated from the subjects themselves for the profile, leadership practices of school heads, and morale of teachers. The variables were tested for the relationship using the T-test and Pearson –r Correlation test. The morale of teachers indicates that they have high regard for integrity in their profession. School heads' profiles are not significantly dependent on the level of leadership practices. Leadership practices are significantly related to their morale. Three pairs of variables did not produce any form of relationships when applied with the correlation test: teachers’ morale and model the way have no relationship, while teachers’ morale and challenge the process have no correlation, and the last pair, teachers’ morale and encourage the heart to have no relationship when tested with the correlation test. The variables inspired by a vision and enabling others to act provided a significant relationship with teachers’ morale. This study suggests that teachers’ morale is significantly influenced by two domains of leadership practices of head teachers: inspiring a vision and enabling others to act. The training plan for school heads and teachers should be presented to the local government and division office for adoption and implementation.
