Social and Cultural Impact of Macalelon’s Kubol

Abstract:

Communities are increasingly participating in celebrations, which have a social and cultural impact on the community. While some communities anticipate economic advantages from an event, others seek social and cultural acknowledgment from the rest of society. This study employed descriptive evaluative and descriptive correlational under a non-experimental research design of the quantitative method with a simple random sampling technique from the results of Cochran's Formula in choosing the respondents of the study from the selected 14 Barangays of Macalelon, Quezon. This study used a validated research-made survey instrument gathered through a written survey which was distributed and retrieved personally. Parametric and NonParametric Tests were utilized using SPSS for a test of normality, homogeneity, and significant difference specifically, the Kruskal-Wallis H-Test, One-Way ANOVA, Independent T-Test, and Mann–Whitney U-test. Results revealed that the majority of the resident-respondents in the study are aged 26 – 40 years old, males, married, and have been residing in Macalelon for 16 to 20 years; Macalelon’s Kubol has a very strong impact on all its categories under social impact such as social support, local product support, and community development; and the cultural impact such as cultural preservation and community values enrichment; there is no significant difference in the social and cultural impact of Macalelon’s Kubol to the respondents when they are grouped according to demographic profile, and the proposed strategic development plan for Macalelon's Kubol be developed to strengthen its social and cultural impact.
