Abstract:

The government is looking for ways to improve the educational system to make it more responsive to the challenging changes of education. With the effort exerted by the Department of Education the percentage of passing and retained students was still a major concern. This study aimed to develop an English-Tagalog Strategic Intervention Material in Biology for Grade 10 learners. Thirty (30) learnerrespondents were taken purposively with below 75 rating in third grading. The study made use of descriptive, experimental-developmental method utilizing one shot pretest and posttest design. Mean, standard deviation and dependent t-test were used. Learners found it difficult to understand the lesson because of language barrier based on the survey conducted. Results showed the performance of the learners in Biology was Very Satisfactory on coordinated functions in reproductive, endocrine and nervous system; and Satisfactory on heredity, biodiversity and evolution, and ecosystem. There was a significant difference which rejected the null hypothesis and found to be significant. It was concluded that the developed intervention materials contributed in the improvement on the performance of learners. The learners who were exposed to the developed strategic intervention material increased performance as shown in the result of the pretest and posttest. Parallel study may be conducted and applied in other learning areas
