Abstract:

This research study aimed to assess the level of ICT competency among teachers and school heads and the availability of ICT equipment in public elementary schools in the Division of Palawan, Philippines. The findings revealed that teachers and school heads demonstrated proficient competency in technology operations and concepts. However, improvement was needed in the social and ethical dim, ethical, and professional dimensions lighted the importance of targeted professional development opportunities and support to enhance competencies in these specific areas. In terms of ICT equipment, the majority of schools had access to basic equipment. Teachers and school heads encountered various challenges in ICT use, including a lack of training, limited technical support, and inadequate content and materials. The research also examined the correlation between demographic characteristics and the level of competencies. Age and years of service showed negative correlations with competency levels, suggesting that younger teachers and school heads exhibited higher levels of competence in certain domains. Educational attainment positively correlated with competency in social and ethical dimensions, pedagogical dimensions, professional dimensions, and general competence. Additionally, the number of training attended positively correlated with competency in technology operations and concepts, social and ethical dimensions, and overall competence for teachers.
