Abstract:

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly disrupted various facets of life, notably impacting the realm of education. Among the hardest-hit disciplines are activity-based courses traditionally conducted in face-to-face settings. The National Service Training Program (NSTP) instruction has particularly felt this impact. This study aimed to scrutinize the challenges encountered and perceived issues in NSTP online classes among college students. Additionally, it sought to gauge students' proficiency in digital/computer skills and assess their experiences in navigating NSTP online activities. Conducted among 279 students enrolled in NSTP at a Catholic University, this research utilized a descriptive survey design employing a specially formulated questionnaire from the College of Education. Findings revealed that the majority of participants, aged 18-20, were predominantly female and pursuing a degree in BS Accountancy (BSA). Notably, students exhibited a satisfactory level of digital skills, which positively influenced their experiences with NSTP online classes. The primary challenge encountered by students was the limited participation of group members in collaborative tasks. Furthermore, issues identified revolved around the comparison between faceto-face and online learning, meeting the diverse online learning needs, achieving desired learning outcomes, inadequate technological support, and managing workloads within the allocated timeframe. Recommendations based on the study emphasize the necessity for course module restructuring aligned with students' capacities and requirements to effectively fulfill learning objectives. Enhancing teacher competencies, particularly in teaching traditionally interactive courses like NSTP, is crucial for improving the attainment of learning outcomes.
