Multimedia Integration as an Instructional Tool for Improving Students’ Grammar Comprehension Skills

Genefe B. Cabutaje

Abstract:

The study examined the effectiveness of multimedia as an instructional tool in improving the grammar comprehension skills of Grade 11 students in one of the national high schools in the province of Misamis Oriental, Philippines. Based on a quasiexperimental method, both pretest and posttest were administered to determine significant difference on the tests results between two groups of respondents: the controlled group (ABM track) and the experimental group (Cookery track). Findings of the study revealed that (a) there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores of the experimental group after multimedia was integrated in their learning activities and (b) majority among the respondents have fairly satisfactory English grammar comprehension. Thus, the integration of multimedia in the learning process among Grade 11 students is instrumental in improving students’ English grammar comprehension skills. Furthermore, as indicated by the teacher-respondents, some of the common problems they have encountered in integrating multimedia to classroom instructions were lack of multimedia resources, teachers’ lack of computer competence, and slow internet connection.
