Utilization of Virtual Learning and Skills Development in Related Learning Experience

Abstract:

Huge part of nursing education is being carried out in a clinical environment which is one of the most important factors for nursing students’ exposure to help them improve their skills and enhance the quality of providing care for the patients. Thus, utilizing the virtual learning of nursing students exhibits challenges and barriers which can compromise the opportunity to adapt toward clinical practices and applicability of real-life situations in healthcare settings. With that, the researchers came up on a study about utilization of virtual learning and skills development in Related Learning Experience. The researchers sought to answer the following hypotheses: “There is a significant difference to the level of skills development in RLE among 2nd year nursing students when grouped according to the demographic profile of the respondents”, “There is a significant difference significant difference to the level of factors that affects the utilization of virtual learning among 2nd year nursing students when grouped according to the demographic profile of the respondents” and “ There is no significant relationship between the level of factors that could affect the utilization of virtual learning among 2nd year nursing students and the level of skills development in RLE” and the following statement of the problem: (1) What are the demographic profile of the respondents, (2) What are the level of skills development in RLE among 2nd year nursing students in terms of critical thinking skills and live return demonstration, (3) What are the level of factors that could affect the utilization of virtual learning among nursing students in terms of online resources accessibility, internet connection availability and time management, (4) Is there any significant difference to the level of skills development in RLE among of 2nd year. Data were gathered from 191 respondents among one government and one private university in Laguna. Total population sampling was utilized in this study. A survey questionnaire was given to the respondents through Google Forms. The data showed that the level of skills in Related Learning Experience were still developed through utilizing virtual learning in terms of live demonstration. Online resource accessibility was the topmost factor that affects the utilization of virtual learning among nursing students. Furthermore, the result of the study showed that there is a significant difference to the level of skills development in RLE among 2nd year nursing students when grouped according to the demographic profile of the respondents. In addition, the data presented that there is a significant difference to the level of factors that affects the utilization of virtual learning among 2nd year nursing students when grouped according to demographic profile of the respondents in internet connection availability, online resource accessibility and time management. Lastly, there is a significant relationship between the level of factors that could affect the utilization of virtual learning among 2nd year nursing students and the level of skills development in RLE. In accordance with the results of the study, they also proposed an action plan by means of conducting webinar to educate 2nd year nursing students efficiently with a strategic approach of clinical simulation where student nurses can learn and apply their skills development either face to face or utilizing virtual learning.
