Abstract:

The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic created enormous changes in the learning environment of the learners. The face-to-face classes considered the traditional learning environment was replaced by online learning, a setup to which the public schools in the Philippines are not used to. Employing a phenomenological research design, the purpose of this study is to determine the lived experiences of students on their learning styles in Araling Panlipunan 10 in the online learning environment and to find out how the online learning environment influences their learning styles. The participants of the study are ten Grade 10 students from the Pulo National High School City of Cabuyao, Laguna, A.Y. 2020-2021. The results of the study revealed that in the online learning environment, most of the students are visual learners or spatial learners who learn best when they are seeing. Some learners tend to be extraverted or social who learn best when active participation with the teacher and classmates. The following recommendations are offered to students, Araling Panlipunan 10 teachers, Araling Panlipunan head teachers, curriculum and program makers, public-school administrators and corporate partners, parents, and future researchers to address the results of the study and limitations for further research possibilities. Given that the students manifest diverse learning styles on learning Araling Panlipunan 10 in the online learning environment and revealed multiple perspectives on the influence of the online learning environment, the proposed recommendations should be considered carefully.
