Quality and Efficiency of Centralized Blood Transfusion Service Delivery

Abstract:

This study determined the association between the quality-of-service delivery of Lead Blood Service Facility-Bicol Medical Center (BMC) and the degree of efficiency in centralized blood transfusion service in Camarines Sur. A concurrent mixed method was used: Quantitative data were analyzed through Frequency distribution, Ranking, Mean, and Pearson's r. The qualitative part was generated from the interviews, and themes were identified based on the participant's responses. Results revealed a significant association between the quality of service delivery of Lead Blood Service Facilities and the degree of efficiency of the centralized blood transfusion service, blood adequacy, blood safety, rational blood use, and blood service management. The following themes were generated as operational factors associated with the implementation of centralized blood transfusion services: geography of the province of Camarines Sur, adequate and well-trained personnel, available supplies and equipment, support of the local and national government, awareness of the national blood program of centralized blood services, quality management, active participation in the blood service network, and intensive advocacy for voluntary blood donation. Intervention Program in Three Phases: Information, Education, and a Campaign on Voluntary Blood Donation in the Blood Services Network Zone-A in Camarines Sur was proposed based on the study's findings.
