Discipline: Education

Abstract:

The study aimed to determine the Bachelor of Science in Criminology program graduates’ employability and schoolacquired skills and competencies related to their occupation. An adapted Graduate Tracer Study (GTS) Questionnaire from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Standard Instrument was utilized to gather quantitative data. The instrument comprised demographic characteristics of the BS Criminology graduates, graduates’ employability status, and the competencies learned in college that the graduates find useful in their first job. The Office of the University Registrar recorded 672 BS Criminology graduates from 2015-2019, and 245 graduates responded in the data gathering process. The data were analyzed using confidence level probability. The finding revealed that most graduates were males, held rank-and-file positions, and had regular or permanent employment status. The perceived skills and competencies such as critical thinking, problem-solving, human relations, and communication skills given by the BS Criminology program were considered relevant and applicable to the performance in their jobs. The study also determined that BS Criminology graduates were primarily employed in Public Administration and Defense, Compulsory Social Security, and that salaries and benefits were the reasons they accepted and stayed with their jobs.
