Stress Anxiety of Engineering Students Towards Mathematical Formula

Abstract:
Mathematics has long been associated with complexity in an increased stress anxiety
levels in academic settings. This study investigates the stress anxiety towards
mathematical formulas in math subjects among students at Technological University of
the Philippines – Manila. This is a qualitative study anchored by cross sectional research
in understanding stress anxiety of engineering students. A purposive and snowballing
sampling were employed in choosing the fifteen (15) respondents of this research from
the College of Engineering. The study revealed four (4) overreaching themes and twelve
(12) sub themes as regards to stress anxiety of engineering students towards
mathematical formula. The higher the level of stress anxiety in mathematical formula
the higher risk of not performing well of the student in the class. This would not only
affect the cognitive level but also emotional factors in students learning. It is
recommended in the study to put more emphasis on the holistic development of the
students. Further, it is also recommended for teachers to use innovative strategies that
would enhance the retention and excitement of the student in learning mathematical
formulas. Lastly, time management as regards learning habits should be applied by
students to give a plausible learning experience.
