Abstract:

This study aims to determine the needs of the youth for Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) programs as a basis for the Comprehensive Barangay Youth Development Plan (CBYDP). Specifically, it sought to answer the following queries: (1) the respondents’ demographic profile; (2) the areas of participation in which the respondents express major needs concerning SK programs; and (3) the CBYDP for a barangay in Laguna, Philippines. The questionnaire by Rosales (2020) was disseminated to the 297 members of the Katipunan ng Kabataan in Barangay San Francisco, Victoria, Laguna via Google Forms and traditional methods. The study utilized purposive sampling and descriptive statistics for data analysis, specifically frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The researchers determined that most of the respondents were male, core youth, unemployed, and attending school. The study revealed that social inclusion and equity (M = 2.39, SD = 1.05), active citizenship (M = 2.46, SD = 1.05), and education (M = 2.49, SD = 1.06) were achieved to a "Moderate Extent." This suggests that SK should address the lack of projects and programs by focusing on these critical areas. Enhancing social inclusion and equity, promoting active citizenship, and improving educational opportunities could significantly better meet the needs of the youth in the community. By prioritizing these areas, the SK can foster a more inclusive, engaged, and educated youth population.
