Abstract:

Digital landscape streamlines the accounting process, manages cost effectively and improves the overall business performance. It paved the way to the horizon of vast opportunities for growth and development. This study aimed to assess the computerized accounting system implementation among small and mid-size service enterprises. It used descriptive methods of research, surveyed using questionnaire the 268 service-type SMEs in Batangas City. Statistical tools used were frequency and percentage distribution, weighted mean, Kruskal-Wallis Test and Shapiro-Wilk Test. The findings showed that majority of the respondents were operating five years and below, typically operated as sole proprietorship with 1-250 transactions per month and uses Microsoft Excel as computer applications. Computerized accounting system was implemented to a great extent in terms of cost-effectiveness, customizability, and reliability. Meanwhile, the security aspect was moderately implemented which may lead to a potential vulnerability in safeguarding sensitive financial data. Theres was a statistical difference in responses when grouped according to profile related to years in operation, form of business ownership, and volume of transactions per month. Businesses with over 10 years of operation typically show increased effectiveness in implementing computerized accounting systems, emphasizing customizability, reliability, and security, while sole proprietorships and corporations often rate higher in cost- effectiveness, reliability, and security. Moreover, businesses with a monthly transaction volume of 1,000 tend to provide better assessments in terms of cost- effectiveness and security compared to lower transaction volumes. A plan of action was proposed to enhance the implementation of computerized accounting systems.
