Abstract:
This study investigated the job satisfaction and organizational commitment of local government employees in the province of Albay, Philippines. Utilizing a descriptive-correlational research design, data were collected through structured questionnaires from 390 respondents across six Local Government Units (LGUs). The study aimed to assess job satisfaction across various dimensions—management and administration, working environment, interpersonal relationships, working hours, incentives, and opportunities for promotion—as well as organizational commitment in terms of affective, continuance, and normative commitment. Results indicated that employees were generally satisfied with their jobs, with interpersonal relationships receiving the highest ratings. However, aspects such as management practices and career advancement showed areas for improvement. Organizational commitment was found to be at a committed level across all dimensions, with affective commitment ranked highest. Statistical analyses revealed significant relationships between job satisfaction and organizational commitment, as well as between these variables and certain demographic factors, particularly educational attainment, length of service, and specific LGU affiliations. Additionally, the study identified significant negative correlations between perceived job satisfaction factors and overall satisfaction, as well as strong positive correlations with organizational commitment. An action plan was proposed to enhance job satisfaction and organizational commitment, focusing on communication, employee-supervisor relationships, fair compensation, and leadership development. The findings underscore the need for LGUs to prioritize employee well-being to sustain effective and responsive public service delivery.
