Cigarette smoking is the inhalation and exhalation of the fumes of burning tobacco. Smoke from the average cigarette contains around 4,000 chemicals, some of which are highly toxic and at least 43 cause cancer. The Global Youth Tobacco Survey showed a rising number of young smokers. Further, health authorities had earlier sounded the alarm on the rising number of Filipino smokers aged 13 to 15. These motivated the researcher to conduct this study in the College of Engineering wherein male students dominate the population. This study aimed to determine the awareness of the respondents on the antismoking laws and the control strategies on cigarettes with the use of checklist questionnaire coupled with interviews to all the engineering students identified to be smoking cigarettes. With the findings, conclusions are 1) The engineering cigarette-smoking students have a moderate level of awareness on each or all of the anti-smoking laws; and 2) the engineering cigarette-smoking students are highly aware on the control strategies of cigarette smoking but not well aware on some.
