Abstract:
Community pharmacists are recognized by most consumers as well-dressed vendors despite the rapid progress in the expanding role of pharmacists. The level of satisfaction of consumers is considered a crucial factor for the successful progression of the pharmacy practice, particularly in a community setting. The researchers aimed to assess the knowledge and level of satisfaction of consumers on the roles and services rendered by the community pharmacist in Santa Rosa City, Laguna. The survey was conducted among the consumers of chain community pharmacies in Santa Rosa City, Laguna. The questionnaire was 10- item questions divided into two sections: Knowledge of consumers about the roles and services rendered by the community pharmacists and the Level of satisfaction of consumers with the roles and services rendered by the community pharmacists. The response to the questions was based on a 5-point Likert scale format. The results were computed and then subjected to data analysis. A total of 384 respondents participated in the study. The majority of the respondents were between the age of 31 and 40 years (33.07%), female (63.02%), and visited the chain community pharmacies monthly (40.89%). Most of them agreed (4.39) and were satisfied (4.45) with the roles and services rendered by the community pharmacists. There is a high significance (p<0.001) and a strong positive correlation (r=0.71) between the knowledge and level of satisfaction of the respondents. The majority of the respondents in Santa Rosa City, Laguna is knowledgeable about the roles of community pharmacists and has agreed that they are not just mere vendors but health professionals who deal with matters relating to drugs. They were also satisfied with how the community pharmacists maintain a high degree of professionalism while rendering their services. Further, as the knowledge of the respondents on the roles and services rendered by the community pharmacist increases, their level of satisfaction also increases. Consumers are encouraged to continue being aware and abreast of the roles and services rendered by community pharmacists. There is a need for community pharmacists to sustain their high-quality services in dispensing drugs for the successful delivery of care with subsequent public health outcomes.
