Lived Experiences in Learning Research in Filipino: Voices of Students in General Santos City

Abstract:

This study aims to explore the experiences in learning research in Filipino among students from HTC and RMMC in General Santos City. It seeks to understand students’ experiences in writing a research paper in Filipino, the contextual factors influencing these writing experiences, how they envision themselves ten years from now, and to propose a program that would enhance their research writing skills in Filipino. The researcher employed a qualitative research design using the transcendental phenomenological approach, organized through thematic analysis. The study also utilized Moustakas' interview guide, which served as a framework for the discussions. The findings revealed that most students struggled to find related literature for their research and that their mental health was affected due to the stress brought on by their lack of writing skills. Furthermore, they envision themselves ten years from now as professional teachers who have pursued further studies in Filipino. Based on the data gathered, the researcher proposed a workshop and writing clinic to further develop their skills in writing research papers in Filipino.
