Discipline: Education

Abstract:

The study determined the effect of song-based strategy on the level of competency on paragraph development of the Grade 5 pupils of Anao-aon District, Department of Education, San Francisco, Surigao Del Norte. It employed a quasi-experimental research design involving 30 Grade 5 pupil respondents. The Findings revealed that the group showed significantly greater gains in their posttest scores compared to their pretest results. Pupils exposed to the song-based strategy showed improved competency on paragraph development as to cause and effect, problem-solution relationship and comparison and contrast, from good and less satisfactory to excellent level, and competent or less competent to very competent level. The study recommends using song-based strategies as a supplementary teaching tool, providing teacher training for music-based instruction, and promoting educational songs at home to support learning.
