Abstract:

This study explored the relationship between cultural awareness and social responsibility among senior high school students. It aimed to determine whether students who recognize the importance of cultural values and practices exhibit higher levels of social responsibility. The research employed a quantitative-descriptive correlational design involving 100 senior high school students enrolled at Mayao Parada Agricultural Integrated High School (MPAIHS) during the school year 2024–2025. Data were gathered through a structured survey that assessed cultural awareness and social responsibility, including demographic variables such as age, sex, and grade level. Findings revealed a balanced demographic distribution, ensuring diverse perspectives. Students exhibited high cultural awareness, particularly in values such as respect for authority, hospitality, and the preservation of traditions through family and religious practices. Similarly, a high level of social responsibility was observed, with strong emphasis on environmental conservation, ethical behavior, and empathy. Statistical analysis indicated that cultural awareness is significantly associated with social responsibility. Furthermore, sex and grade level were found to influence aspects of social responsibility, particularly in environmental and community engagement. However, perceived challenges in cultural awareness had minimal impact on social responsibility. The study concludes that cultural awareness—specifically in values and practices—is a significant predictor of students’ social responsibility. It recommends the integration of culturally enriched activities and sustainability programs within the school curriculum. Additionally, gender-inclusive and grade-specific initiatives should be developed to ensure equitable participation and strengthen students’ commitment to social responsibility as they advance through grade levels.
