Discipline: Education
Abstract:
This research developed and validated supplemental materials for Oral
Communication, specifically designed for a flipped classroom approach, addressing the
absence of such resources inside the institution. The material was focused on the use of
second-quarter learning competencies in Oral Communication. The study was
conducted at Laguna College of Business and Arts, where the whole population was
used since there was a single section of Grade 11 TVL-ICT comprising 30 students who
participated in both the pretest and posttest. Fifteen (15) educational professionals
served as inter-rater evaluators of the materials, including seven (7) Secondary English
Teachers from Laguna College of Business and Arts and Palo Alto Integrated School,
along with one (1) Secondary English Teacher from Don Bosco College.
Employing the four-point Likert Scale, simple mean, and t-test for independent samples,
the prepared and validated content, assessed by inter-raters for objectives, directions,
topics, and practical exercises, demonstrated good validity with a mean of 3.93, 3.95,
4.00, 3.95, respectively. The approval of the created materials for clarity, usefulness,
presentation, and suitability was notably high, with a mean of 3.95, 3.97, 3.97, and 3.93,
respectively. The Grade 11 TVL-ICT students exhibited a notable increase in their
performance between the pretest (71.33, Did Not Meet Expectations) and posttest (97.10,
Outstanding) after the adoption of the supplemental content, with a p-value of .000. The
supplemental resources addressing oral communication via the flipped classroom
technique was helpful, as seen by the enhanced performance of the Grade 11 TVL-ICT
students
