Police Visibility: Its Observed Effectiveness, Challenges and Impact on Public Safety

Jayson R. Ortega

Discipline: social policy

Abstract:

The study described the impact of police visibility on public safety through descriptive research. It was conducted in barangays in various municipalities in Oriental Mindoro where the Revitalized Pulis sa Barangay program has been implemented. Purposive sampling was employed to choose the respondents, and data was gathered via a survey questionnaire. The respondents' demographic profile was described using frequency and percentage distribution, and the implementation and effects of police visibility were assessed using weighted mean and ranking. All of the variables' p-values were less than 0.05, according to the Shapiro-Wilk Test results, indicating that the data set was not regularly distributed. As a result, the Kruskal Wallis test for more than two groups and the Mann Whitney U test for two groups were employed as nonparametric tests to identify significant differences. The substantial link was also tested using Spearman rho. SPSS version 28 was used for all analyses. Opinions of police effectiveness were shown to be influenced by demographic parameters including age and occupation, but not by gender or years of residency. The necessity of taking proactive measures is highlighted by the strong correlation between the application of police visibility tactics and positive community outcomes. In order to address present problems and optimize the advantages of police visibility, the paper ends with suggestions for better training, resource allocation, and community involvement. These results support broader efforts to maintain community police partnerships and enhance public safety.
