Ang The Global Filipino Magazine at ang Naratibo ng Tagumpay ng mga Pilipinong nasa Diaspora

Abstract:

Ang pangingibang-bansa ng mga Pilipinong nais makapaghanap-buhay ay dahil sa layuning mapabuti ang kalagayan ng kanilang pamumuhay at ng kanilang pamilya. Hindi madali ang magtrabaho sa ibang bansa. Kaakibat nito ang mga hamong maaaring gumiba o magpatatag sa sarili sa pagnanais na matupad ang mga pangarap na mapabuti at mapaunlad ang buhay. Isa ang United Arab Emirates (UAE) sa may mataas na bilang ng Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW). Dito, ang The Global Filipino Magazine (TGFM) ang pangunahing pinagkukunan ng balita, kuwento, at mga pananaw na nag-uugnay sa mga Pilipino sa Dubai, UAE at iba pang bansa. Isa sa mga itinatampok nito ay ang pagtalakay at pagbibigay-espasyo sa mga naratibo ng tagumpay ng mga OFW. Dahil dito, sinikap ng mga mananaliksik na alamin kung paano nakatutulong ang TGFM sa naratibo ng tagumpay ng mga OFW. Layunin ng papel na ito na alamin ang mga dahilan kung bakit nagbabasa ng mga kuwentong tagumpay sa magasin ang mga OFWs; tukuyin ang mga kahulugan ng tagumpay na nahahango at nabubuo nila sa pagbabasa ng naturang mga kuwento; at suriin ang impluwensiya ng magasin sa naratibo ng tagumpay ng mga mambabasang OFW. Gumamit ang mga mananaliksik ng semi-structured na panayam bilang pamamaraan sa pagkalap ng impormasyon mula sa mga piling OFW na nakatira sa Dubai at Abu Dhabi. Ang teorya ng social construction of reality naman ang ginamit sa pagsusuri ng mga datos o impormasyong nakalap. Ang mga kuwentong ibinahagi ng mga kalahok ay binuo ang mga temang, 1)ang pagkakaroon ng trabaho sa ibang bansa ay pagkakaroon ng magandang buhay, 2) ang mga kuwento ng tagumpay ng kapwa Pilipino ay nakakagaan ng loob, 3) “kung kaya nila, kaya ko rin,” at 4) ang kahulugan ng tagumpay. Hangad ng papel na ito ang makapagpalawak sa kaalaman at kasanayan kaugnay ng pag-aaral tungkol sa mga OFW at magsilbing batayan ng mga naratibo at impormasyon tungkol sa diasporang Pilipino ang nabuong depinisyon ng tagumpay.
