Parental Involvement on Academic Performance of San Francisco District: Inputs to Parental Engagement Guidelines

Abstract:

Parents inevitable role in nurturing their child does not end at home. It extends its care and involvement towards their child’s schooling. The involvement of parents in academic performance of their child. The study aims to know the correlation of parental involvement and academic performance of Grade 6 learners in San Francisco District and make a guideline that will help in parental engagement. Using descriptive-correlational research design approach that utilizes survey questionnaire to gather numerical data, the researcher compared the academic performance and the student’s perception on parental involvement with a ten item questionnaire focusing on Epstein Theory of Parental Involvement such as parenting, communicating, volunteering, learning at home, decision- making and collaborating with the community. With 140 sample population the results showed that there is no significant relationship between the academic performance to parental involvement but there is a significant relationship with regards to the parent-child relationship and parental involvement. Thus, the implication of this study could be used to promote and help parents through creating guidelines to parental engagement.
