Abstract:

This study examines how communication technology promotes Islam in Barangay Poblacion, Talayan, Maguindanao del Sur. Due to the rapid growth of technology, Islamic groups and individuals have begun to use social media and mobile phones to spread Islam and engage with their communities. This research aimed to investigate the impact of new communication technologies on contemporary religious practices and beliefs. It explored how individuals utilize technology to access religious resources, connect with the global Muslim community, and participate in online religious activities. The study employed a quantitative methodology as a primary investigative approach. To achieve its objectives, a semi-structured questionnaire was used to explore how Muslim communities in Barangay Poblacion Talayan, Maguindanao del Sur, leverage technology to enhance their faith and strengthen community ties. The survey involved a total of fifty randomly selected individuals from Poblacion Talayan, Maguindanao. Among the respondents were Ulama, Asatidz, and members of the Bangsamoro Communication Network, all of whom reside in Talayan Maguindanao del Sur and are responsible for promoting the Islamic faith. Residents who were unfamiliar with Islam or unable to answer the questions were not included as respondents. Communication Technology Utilized in the Promotions of Islamic Faith results were based on statement indications, with some favoring “Yes” and others not. This suggests that not all communication technologies were used to promote Islam. In summary, respondents promoted Islam only via radio FM, Icom Radio, and cell phone. Challenges Confronted by Respondents in Promoting Islamic Faith Using Communication Technology showed that all statement indicator metrics preferred “Yes”. The absence of communication technology abilities makes promoting Islamic faith in Barangay Población Talayan become difficult.
