Cirilo F. Bautista was born on 9 July 1941 in Sampaloc, Manila. He is married to Rose Marie Jimenez, by whom he has three children. He finished his AB in English, magna cum laude, at the University of Santo Tomas in 1963; MA in English, magna cum laude, at the Saint Louis University, Baguio City; and DA in Language and Literature at De La Salle University in 1990. He also attended the International Writing Workshop at the State University of Iowa on a fellowship. He is at present Full Professor of Literature and Writer-in-Residence of De La Salle University. He also served as Exchange Professor at Waseda University, 1985 and Ohio University, 1989; and as Visiting Poet at Trinity College, Cambridge University, 1987.
