Aimee Calingasan

Discipline: Education

Abstract:

The role of social media in the English language learning of students has become increasingly popular as digital platforms evolve and integrate into educational contexts. This study investigates how social media influences the acquisition of the English language among students. The study employs the descriptive research design using a survey questionnaire to gather data from 143 participants. It was conducted at a private university in Santiago City, Isabela. Findings reveal that the majority of the respondents are Criminology students, and the majority are female. The respondents find social media networks moderately useful in terms of their features, benefits and uses. The results of the study showed that there is no significant difference in the perceptions of the respondents with regard to the role of social media networks on their English language learning when they are grouped according to program and sex. The study proposed different enhancement activities to help improve the English language learning of students through the use of social media networks.
