The designed project intended to give the national Broadcasting Network an efficient and reliable microwave link design equipped with technical and economical considerations between Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and National Broadcasting Network (NBN-4). It aimed to replace the use of ENG van connected to portable microwave communication system instead of masts to send the MMDA’s program to NBN-4 for airing. The link was designed to have a reliability of 99.9999% after considering all factors that could affect the system’s performance.
The study intended to comply with the requirements specified by the client considering all the parameters needed in a microwave communication system. A series of data gathering procedures, mathematical computations, and simulations were performed to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the system. The study used a descriptive type of research to describe the existing conditions, theories, and principles needed in the design and adopted them in the mathematical computations and design of the microwave engineering.
After several computations, the design’s main components were determined which consisted of Andrew Antenna and waveguides and DAR6 Vislink Microwave Radio Communications. It included the 6 feet (1.8) Standard Parabolic Antenna for 5.925-6.425 GHz, standard hangers, gray-white radome, and EWP52S super premium elliptical waveguide.
Considering the economic aspect to materialize the design, it was found out that the microwave link communications system would have a total investment cost of Php 4,740,364.84. This total investment would yield a 71.1387% Rate of Return after one year, four months, and twenty-six days of operation. The design was proven to be more advantageous over the existing set-up without compromising the quality of the system.
