Abstract:

I dedicate this paper to all the many women who have been forced to sacrifice their right to life and human dignity in the name of culture, religion and social norms and to the few who stand up for their rights even in the face of death or a life that resembles a half death due to rejection from own communities and society. This paper is one of the first in my research journey that seeks to explore the journeys of and give voice to women like myself, who have had the courage to flee domestic violence and stay away from it, even at the risk of being ostracised by own community.
