Discipline: History
The author provides a portrayal of how Filipinos in a Philippine province, Surigao, responded to American rule two and a half decades after the US annexation of the Islands. Almeda suggests that the Colorum Uprising in Surigao was a form of peasant nationalism, and the real tragedy in that event was the inability and failure of the colonial American and Filipino leadership to grasp the significance of it as such.
