Banishment was America’s solution to the stubbornness of “undesirable Filipinos” one of whom was Apolinario Mabini. Banished to Guam, the “Sublime Paralytic” recounts his life in the island as “quiet and monotonous, without joys and anxieties.” Seized sometimes by gloom and the thought of death, Mabini somehow spent a productive life like writing the history of the Philippine Revolution.
