Kalinga Textile Design Development and Evaluation

Abstract:

Weaving is one of the major economic activities among women in the province of Kalinga, Philippines. The study developed and evaluated the Kalinga weave designs. The researchers conceptualized modified weave designs. The weave designs were taught to 15 weavers through a five day training. Specifically, the project upgrade the weaving skills and techniques of weavers in terms of designs, color combination, and workmanship. The results showed that the making of bags, men’s attires, ladies suits, accessories, and for accents. Fifteen woven items produced different designs. The woven products were mixed with some of the existing designs and evaluated. Results of the evaluation revealed that in terms of color combination, design, workmanship, and best utilization of the products, the assessment of the evaluators did not significantly differ. The modified cloth designs can compete with the traditional designs in terms of color combinations, designs and workmanship.
