Susing salita: Linguistics
In Tagalog, a major Austronesian language spoken mainly in the Philippines, there seems at first sight to be conflicting evidence as to what is the controller of the missing argument in control constructions and if the controller in the main clause and the missing argument from the linked clause are correlated with each other. In many languages including English, the controller can be characterised as either subject control or object control in the syntax. This is different from Tagalog in that the controller is not only characterised by either of the two, but the presence of some sentences proves that semantic control should be taken into consideration.
