The study aimed to determine the predictive cut-offs in high school grade point average, entrance examination, NCM grades and emotional intelligence of the students that can forecast passing in the PNLE and to derive predictive models from the combination of high school grade-point average, entrance examination result, NCM grades, emotional intelligence and type of high school attended that best predict passing of the Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination based on three school years namely 2004, 2005 and 2006. The study was conducted at Davao Doctors College located in Malvar Street, Davao City. The subjects of the study were the BSN graduates of Davao Doctors College who had taken PNLE for the first time during year 2004, 2005 and 2006. Results showed that the aggregated NCM grade and entrance examination came out as the best predictors of PNLE. Stepwise regression analysis was performed to determine significant predictors of PNLE when NCM grade, EQ variables, entrance examination result and high school GPA are examined in the stepwise process. Stepwise regression revealed that among entrance examination, NSG grades and High school GPA, only the aggregated NCM grade and entrance examination are the best predictors of PNLE, thus these variables enter in the model. The predictive cut-offs of the various factors show that the NCM grades and entrance examination results are in the best position to offer cut offs that are predictive to passing the PNLE. The best model to predict passing of PNLE is shown by the following formula: PNLE = -4.109+ 0.946(NCM grade) + 0.046 (Entrance Examination)
The model above reveals that there is a corresponding 0.946 level increase in PNLE score for every one level increase in NCM grade when Entrance examination held constant. For every one level increase in the entrance examination result, a 0.046 level increase will be incurred in the PNLE score when effect of average NCM grade is held constant. The NCM grade however has a higher influence to the success. It is therefore recommended that the entrance examination can be improved together with the establishment of a clear cut off grade of 80-85 for NCM grades and Entrance Examination grade.
